This book was for me (and yes, so many countless of thousands of other individuals), that will now and forever encounter this type of behavior, and go online to Google and painstakingly type in words like bullying, workplace violence, abuse at work, etc, in search to describe what they are feeling and going through, support, laws/rights and seek counseling. You will be to them a new light, that will open up and illuminate their path. Deborah, bullied employee, Ohio

Thank you for your book. It is a life saver. S.M, bullied employee, California

In Darkness Light Dawns: Exposing Workplace Bullying, Lisa Barrow encapsulates the entire transition of a healthy and capable employee to one that is broken, demoralized and suffering from serious health issues as a result of workplace bullying. Through her courage and valor to help other people, she writes from the soul as only a person who has experienced this form of workplace violence can do. The reader of her book will be able to identify how common workplace bullying is and the similarity of tactics bullies use to destroy the health and well-being of their targets. Yet, as the book promises, light does dawn. As one progresses through the book, you understand what Lisa experienced, how she survived working in a hostile environment and how she recovered from the trauma. If there is one lesson the reader should take to heart, it is that you should never let the bully break the bonds with the friends and family that you have. It is they who you will need and rely on to get you through this experience and that the Bully wishes they had. Michael P. Schlicht- Healthy Workplace Advocate

Thank you very much for your book. It is excellent and will support a lot of people. Patricia bullied employee, Tennessee

I just finished reading your “In Darkness Light Dawns” book and thought it was fantastic—it really addresses the issue…I have passed it onto our HR person, she is currently reading it, and she is going to pass it around to all the Managers for required reading, as this definitely is an issue you hear comments about and we need to address them and educate our staff! This also ties in with workplace violence which will have to be addressed once Bill 168 is passed and we are trying as well to develop policy and procedures around mental health in the workplace. P.W. Health & Safety Manager

Lisa Barrow writes with compassion , courage and insight gained from her own personal 'workplace' bullying experiences. Inside the pages of her book, 'In the Darkness Light Dawns' she shares with vulnerability to connect with other victims who may find themselves tragically slipping in the abyss of hopeless abandon from within their workplace environment. With candid honesty, Lisa provides a safe harbor for victims to gain insight, understanding, a unity of heart, offering a step by step approach to new beginnings. In boldness she speaks to employers to government sharing the statistics of this mounting problem from her research for it is alarmingly wide spread...making her desire to see legislation past to make this a crime...to offer protection for the innocent...  I read the book and loved it. I would say that it was a very real account of the devastating affects of Workplace Bullying, with practical solutions for those affected. It does give hope for healthier workplaces for the future and most importantly demonstrates how critical a healthy workplace culture is to the well being of all who work for an organization! A.K. Hope for a Healthy Workplace (ISBN: 1598861107)

Inspiring! Love and hope are seldom mentioned as ideals in the workplace. But it is much needed, as psychological harassment in the workplace is growing at an epidemic rate. Call it bullying, mobbing, or workplace psychological harassment; it is a culture that is just coming to the forefront of public and political awareness; A wave of hopelessness that could reach tsunami proportions in today’s job economy. Dr Lisa Barrow beautifully lays out this phenomenon in a quick read book, with much to ponder. The book provides an intimate perspective of how peoples/employers’ on the job behavior can take a lifelong toll in the personal lives of workers; the very people they have been entrusted to guide in the work place Many States, as well as Canadian Provinces are in the throes of legislation to make psychological harassment in the work place illegal. Everyone, including the employer, wins when this ugly behavior is abolished. In a number of Countries such laws already exist. Dr Barrow provides a look at the bully who gives little thought to how ones’ behavior insidiously burdens a worker’s personal life, as well as their families. The results are devastating and can last a lifetime. Through personal experience and educational pursuit, her perspectives have evolved into a thought provoking, positive theory of how to turn this issue around. She provides a unique approach in resolving a worldwide epidemic of basic mean spirited intent in the work place. At long last, books on this topic are entering the market. Dr. Lisa Barrow's Hope for a Healthy Workplace: Introducing Philanthropian Leadership is a must read.  Anonymous.

No matter what position you hold in an organization, the principles of perceptive listening, compassion, understanding, and accepting from the other person's point of view are paramount for healthy relationship development.

As a human resource professional, organizational development consultant and individual career coach, I welcome and applaud the arrival of Dr. Barrow's Philanthropian Leadership model. Dr.  Barrow has taken the time to carefully examine and courageously diagnose the emotional abuse that has been spreading like a cancer through North American organizations. She takes it one step further by offering a much-needed prescription for leadership that is thought-provoking, practical, refreshing and, ultimately hopeful. In a world where leaders are rewarded and promoted based on technical skills and perceived productivity, where the end often justifies the means, where "what" is accomplished is more important than "how", is it any wonder that a leadership crisis exists and that countless employees must contend with emotional rape in the environment to which they must return day after gruelling day? Having looked into the eyes of hundreds of disheartened employees, I understand all too well the need for a new leadership model - where results occur as a by product of intentional relational competence, not in spite of it. Dr. Barrow's perceptive observations and stirring personal experiences offer us all - whether leaders by title, training or organizational membership - an opportunity to re-think our value and values in a way that honours ourselves, our co-workers and ultimately our workplaces. A must-read, for aspiring, struggling or transitioning leaders.

Very fast reading book, as Dr. Barrow takes us on her own journey of discovery through the workplace. We find experiences so easy to relate to, anecdotes that tear at heart strings and courage that gives us Hope. No Holds barred, Dr. Barrow tells it like it is. Finally a little reality is painted on the picture of what is happening all over the the working world... and better yet a solution is provided with Dr. Lisa Barrow's breakthrough in Organizational Behaviour: The Philantropian Leadership model. Not only does experience help to build this model, but careful research and thoughtful study have gone into it as well.
Just when you think America is sinking, there is Hope, and Dr. Barrow outlines her new model of Hope for a Healthy Workplace. Finally a more realistic approach to a surprisingly common problem in the workplace today. I highly recommend this excellent, authoritative, and easy to read book.
